J’NAE EATS: NYC’S BEST BRUNCH SPOTS

Breakfast for lunch? Always. I love nothing more than a good brunch, arguably two of the best meals of the day combined. In my eyes, their couldn’t be a more award-winning combination. If you’re out and about roaming the streets of NYC and hungry for a breakfast like no other, read on to find out my favourite New York brunch spots.

Now, can you really go to The States and not eat fried chicken and waffles? Or in Bubby’s case, fried chicken and pancakes. These world famous pancakes, coupled with the tenderest of chicken and a good splash of bourbon maple syrup, were a treat thats hard to beat. Straightforward and fresh food with great ingredients lies at the heart of Bubby’s ethos, and since they opened on Thanksgiving Day in 1990 NYC’s cherished eatery and pie shop has been a favourite local hang. The food is delicious, and whats more the large portions mean you wont be leaving hungry. Keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you, you may spot a celeb or two.

 

Neil Kleinberg and DeDe Lahmen (a dynamite husband and wife duo) opened Clinton St Baking Company in 2001 with the aim of making the tastiest baked goods in the city, and haven’t looked back since. Hints of Southern hospitality in the food are unmistakeable – chicken & waffles, cheese grits, fried green tomatoes, buttermilk biscuits, and chocolate peanut butter milkshakes are only a fraction of whats on the menu. This comfort food is what initially intrigued the locals of the Lower East Side, and is now what has people coming from all over and queuing around the block. I had the crispy potato pancakes with caramelised applesauce & sour cream, grilled chorizo, and a side of fresh fruit topped off with an iced tea. I think when looking at the menu my eyes were bigger than my belly, but boy was it worth it! What started as a bakery is now a legendary hotspot, with the owners having opened outposts in Japan and Dubai – you don’t get that far by being basic. Helpful tip, arrive early to avoid queues otherwise you’ll be waiting for 40 minutes like myself – but I don’t regret it one bit.

 

Have you ever been to a restaurant that serves a Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata with Sevruga Caviar, that’ll set you back a mere $2000? Me neither. Welcome to Norma’s; an upscale, modern yet classic breakfast and lunch spot located in the Le Parker Merdien Hotel with tall ceilings and silver-edged tables. They serve breakfast until 11am Mon-Thurs, and until 3pm Fri-Sun. The speciality at Norma’s is adding a little bit of something extra to breakfast classics, such as pancakes loaded with blueberries and clotted cream; and eggs Benedict with artichoke and porcini-truffle sauce. All meals start with a free shot glass of the day’s smoothie, and as I didn’t want to eat my money away I chose the Super Cheesy French Toast with Caramelized Onions & Applewood Smoked Bacon and a Fresh Orange Juice. It was heavenly, and by far one of my favourite meals I had during my time in New York. Pay a visit to Norma’s at Le Parker Meridien, and you’ll leave more than satisfied.
