As much as I love makeup, skincare is where I will really spend my time (and money) investing in what’s right for me. Figuring out your ‘perfect’ skincare routine and finding the right products that work for you takes time and patience, don’t expect to see results overnight. Here’s a carefully curated list of products that are currently working for me, but remember our skin is always changing – so when your skin changes what you use will need to change too.
Cleanser, CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser: In 2018 when I visited NYC I picked up the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser at a Walmart, but luckily now you don’t have to go all the way Stateside to get your hands on this gem. I got the one for normal to oily skin which is really gentle whilst working effectively to cleanse and remove dirt and excess oil. Developed with dermatologists it deeply cleanses and refreshes the skin – suitable for anyone and everyone!
Essence, Tatcha The Essence: What is an essence you may wonder, and do I really need one in my skincare routine? Well I was debating it aswell, until I tried The Essence by Tatcha. Recommended for all skin types, The Essence works to maximise the performance of all other skincare applied afterwards. It smoothes and resurfaces your skin whilst keeping it hydrated, revealing softer more supple skin. Uji Green Tea, Okinawa Mozuku Algae & Akita Rice are Tatcha’s trinity of anti-aging superfoods packed into this wonder product. Use daily after cleansing and before any other skincare – you’re guaranteed to see a difference.
Toner, Caudalie VinoPure Clear Skin Purifying Toner: If you suffer with acne like me, then you’ll know certain toners can over-dry your skin and do it more harm then good. You’ll have tried so many you lost count, but when you find the right one you’ll stick too it and never look back. Caudalie’s natural toner gently purifies the skin, infused with natural salicylic acid and grape-seed/essential oils it targets blemish prone skin and prepares it for the next stages of skincare.
Oil, The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-In-Oil: This is one of The Body Shop’s bestsellers and for good reason. Whenever I use this product I go to bed knowing my skin will look better in the morning, the Vitamin E recharges and replenishes overnight making you look more radiant the next day. The non-greasy lightweight formula easily absorbs into the skin and works well with other products.
Serum, Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil: I love this product so much I dedicated a whole blog post to it (find in my Beauty section). This exfoliating oil battles and prevents breakouts, whilst helping to brighten any pigmentation and discolouration. The hero ingredient ‘salicylic acid’ penetrates pores to get rid of dirt and bacteria. Start by using this product once or twice a week nightly, and be careful not to purge as it is pricey!
Moisturiser, Mario Badescu Buttermilk Moisturiser: A soothing daily moisturiser for combination and dry skin, this lactic-acid infused cream revitalises skin to encourage your natural glow. Lackluster complexions get a boost and brighter fresher skin is revealed, need I say more?
Micellar water, Garnier PureActive Micellar Cleansing Water: An easy to use product that gently removes makeup and any dirt from the skin, micellar cleansing waters have grown in popularity over the past year. Suitable even for sensitive skin, its like an all-in-one cleanser thats dermalogically and opthalmologically gently removing makeup and soothing all in one go.
Spot treatment, Renée Rouleau Anti Cyst Treatment: If you suffer from serious hormonal acne such as cysts, this topical cystic acne serum reduces the painful bumps that are formed deep underneath the surface of the skin. This product was revolutionary for me, and really helped get those painful jawline bumps under control. My cysts are way less inflamed when I’m using this, the only downside is it only ships within the US which sucks.
Eye cream, Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado: I think this may be my ride-or-die eye cream. My eye area is particularly sensitive, and I’ve never experience problems using this. Avocado gently moisturises and hydrates the delicate eye area, and this velvety formula doesn’t migrate into the eyes. This formula protects skin from external aggressors and is ideal for using on this sensitive area.
Face wipes, Simple Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes: After a long hard day at work you can’t beat a tried and tested face wipe. My favourite are any of the Simple face wipes as they’re very gentle and aren’t scented, containing no artificial perfumes or chemicals. It can get even the most stubborn of products old such as waterproof mascara, this product has been in my skincare drawer for years and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Skincare and feeding my skin what it needs is something I’m definitely going to be paying close attention to in 2019, its important to remember not one persons skin is the same – and what your skin needs may be different to what others need. Doing some research, finding out your skin type and treating your concerns specifically for you will make the world of difference. And remember the basics; drink plenty of water and always ALWAYS wear SPF (even when you think you don’t need SPF you really really do).
