AMERICAN MAKEUP HAUL

When I visited New York last year, I made it my mission to shop for makeup brands that weren’t yet available in the UK. As well as the fact that Sephora no longer ship to the UK (heaven knows why), this became even more of a personal mission. I wanted to go home armed with products that I knew I wouldn’t have access to normally, or products that would cost an arm and a leg to ship to the UK due to taxes/import fees etc. With a much heavier suitcase upon my return home, I was not disappointed. Read on to see what I bought on my travels Stateside…

Eyeshadow Palettes
One of the product ranges you can buy in vary shapes and sizes aplenty, eyeshadow palettes fascinate me. From high-street to high-end, the quality and range of eyeshadow palettes available is on the rise. Pigments and the variation of shades you now have access too is not just limited to luxury brands, but high-street/drugstore brands are now giving luxury brands a run for their money. Heres a list of the eyeshadow palettes I bought:
– Tarte: Tartelette Flirt Eyeshadow Palette
– Natasha Denona: Mini Sunset Palette
– Wet N Wild: Color Icon Eyeshadow 10 Pan Palette – Not A Basic Peach
– Pat McGrath Labs: MTHRSHP Sublime Bronze Ambition Palette
– Melt Cosmetics: Dark Matter Eyeshadow Stack
– Melt Cosmetics: Baby Girl Eyeshadow Stack

(Stila: Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Rose Gold Retro + Smoldering Satin + Kitten Karma)

Eye Products
From mascaras to eye pigments to liquid eyeshadow, I bought a variation of eye products from Sephora as well as drugstore stores such as Duane Reade and CVS in New York. You’d be surprised at how much better the makeup on offer is in drugstores in the US compared to the UK, and at such a reasonable price point who would argue with that? Here’s a list of the eye products I bought in NYC:
– Maybelline: Colossal Big Shot Mascara x Shayla
– L’Oreal: Voluminous Lash Paradise
– Tarte: Lights Camera Lahes 4-in-1 Mascara
– Benefit: Precisely, My Brow Pencil
– Stila: Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Rose Gold Retro + Smoldering Satin + Kitten Karma
– MILK Makeup: Eye Pigment in Gig

(MILK Makeup: Highlighter in Lit + Matte Bronzer in Baked)

Face Products
One huge difference I find between beauty in the US & UK is the range of drugstore makeup of high quality that is on offer, and how much it can rival high-end makeup. I could spend hours and hours browsing the drugstore, and always leaving with a full shopping bag. Here’s a list of the face products I bought:
– Physicians Formula: Butter Bronzer in Sunkissed
– E.L.F. – Bronzer/Blush Duo in St Lucia
– Kat Von D: Translucent Setting Powder
– Melt Cosmetics: Blush in Cali Dream
– Melt Cosmetics: Blushlight in Lynx
– Wet N Wild: Megaglo Contouring Palette in Dulce De Leche
– Wet N Wild: Megaglo Contour Stick in Oak’s On You
– Wet N Wild: Color Icon Blush in Mellow Wine
– Wet N Wild: Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals
– Maybelline: ExpertWear Eyeshadow in The Glow Down
– Wet N Wild: Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Golden Flower Crown
– MILK Makeup: Highlighter in Lit
– MILK Makeup: Matte Bronzer in Baked

Setting Spray + Primer + Lip Liners
Last but now least are a few random products I picked up. Urban Decay setting sprays always get rave reviews, so naturally I bought one. And even though E.L.F. is a brand that you can buy online in the UK, its never one I’ve tried or bought from before as I prefer to see makeup in person before I buy it so I can swatch and get a real feel for products. And FYI, if you didn’t know already Sephora do the best own brand lip-liners I’ve ever come across – and at approximately $5 (if memory serves me correctly) they are a steal. Here’s a list of the last few bits I purchased on my American Makeup Haul:
– Urban Decay: De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray
– E.L.F.: Mineral Infused Face Primer
– Sephora: Lip Liner To Go (x3)

The makeup I purchased from Melt Cosmetics I did buy via their website and got it shipped to my hotel, so thats the only makeup I didn’t physically try and buy in person before I purchased it. And luckily for all you UK makeup lovers out there (myself included); brands such as Wet N Wild/Melt Cosmetics are both now available at Beauty Bay online and MILK Makeup is now available online at Cult Beauty. It’s about time right?

By the end of my trip to New York, my suitcase was 5kg overweight and I had to pay $100 in excess fees to British Airways to bring my case home – but it was totally worth it, and I don’t regret it one bit.

Look out for blog posts featuring some of these products coming soon!
