WHAT FASHION PIECES TO INVEST IN FOR AW19

Once again, fashion month is finally over and we can all get back to our normal day-to-day lives. My favourite time of year for fashion and getting dressed is always Autumn/Winter, which is why I look forward to the February/March shows most of all – and this season did not disappoint. Designers were dreaming big and breaking all of the rules, and fuelling our insatiable appetite for the inaccessible. I’ve narrowed it down in this post to what I think will be AW19’s biggest trends, and the trends we’ll all soon be wearing.

Show-stopping gowns
Theres no doubt about it that Japanese designer Tomo Koizumi caused a social media storm when he put on a show in the basement of Marc Jacobs’ Madison Avenue pop-up store, with thanks to none other than mega-stylist Katie Grand. Koizumi’s dreamy gargantuan creations were delicately crafted like origami ruffles, and had the fashion world giggling in delight. Who said fashion always has to be so serious? Noir Kei Ninomiya, Molly Goddard, and Marc Jacobs also filled our timelines with colourful and over-the-top creations that took the AW19 catwalks by storm, and what better way to make an entrance. Whilst this may not be the easiest trend to wear come Autumn/Winter, its definitely the most playful.

Macs
One piece that you can invest in, and that you know you’ll get use out of time and time again, is the mac. The classic mac is forever being reinvented by designers across the board, and is a way to make your wardrobe feel elevated in everyday life. There is always something quite intriguing when a designer reinvents a staple piece and puts their own spin on it, and one of my absolute favourites this season has to be the JW Anderson mac with checked lapels and voluminous sleeves. I need this piece in my life! Sophisticated and grown-up, you can always count on the mac to be a timeless staple in your closet.

Puffer jackets
Have you really embraced Autumn/Winter if you don’t have a puffer jacket in your wardrobe? This comeback piece hailing from the 90’s has had a high-fashion makeover as of late, and the demand for puffer jackets shows no signs of slowing down just yet. This padded outwear piece is popular amongst high-street crowds and high-fashion folk alike, and the AW19 season showed a more futuristic and sporty take on the ever popular item. An easy addition to anyones wardrobe.

Belts
AW19 was definitely all about the waist – and clever ways to cinch it in and accentuate. This catwalk season saw the return on the belt which adds an element of polish to any look, breaking it up and taking it a step further. Belts are an easy way to take your outfit from one season to the next, for example layering over jackets and knitwear to make your outfits go that extra mile.

Hair accessories
The easiest and chicest way to update and elevate your wardrobe without having to splash the cash is to add in some cool new accessories. Making elevated looks more playful, welcome the era of the hair accessory. From pearl clips to bejewelled slides to graceful headbands, this hyper-feminine aesthetic is sticking around for AW19. Luckily, high-street shops and online stores such as Etsy have a whole range of hair accessories for us to choose from. What are you waiting for?!
