I will admit, I’m a sucker for a place to eat that’ll look good on the ‘gram. And based on what I’ve seen on Instagram a lot lately, coffee shops are popping up left right and centre that cater to the needs of folk who want to snap a few pics for social media. Nevertheless, if I’m going to take the time and effort to seek out a place I’ve seen on social media – it had better be good. And thats how I ended up at two of the most Instagrammable cafes in NYC.
CHA CHA MATCHA, NoLita – New York
Cha Cha Matcha is more than just a coffee shop; its a heartfelt community built around you guessed it, matcha. A celeb fave, the likes of Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have been known to pass through its ultra-pink doorways. A place dedicated to all things matcha, the owners were inspired by Japanese culture and the art of the green tea ceremony. A haven for the matcha obsessed, they serve some of the best matcha on the planet and experiment with different ways to serve this incredibly nutritional finely ground powder. The quirky store design and ‘Cha-Cha’ printed wallpaper make you feel like you’re on vacation in the tropics, even the coffee cups come in a pink & green print. I had the pink matcha lemonade, and on the hot and humid day I visited Cha Cha Matcha is was a more than welcome refreshment. As they say, “love you so matcha…”
CHILL HOUSE, Lower East Side – New York
A different type of cafe destination that was created to focus on modern self-care, Chillhouse is a comfortable space that puts all at ease. This cafe-come-spa hybrid is carefully curated and the message is clear, ‘chill’ is spelled out in a neon artwork sign right on the wall. This cafe helps super-busy urbanites to take time out and chill, and they even now have a blog ‘The Chill Times’ focusing on wellness and health. The cafe offers wellness based lattes, cafe items, and even some alcoholic beverages are on offer. The nail salon uses high-quality non-toxic products for manicures and nail art, and you can also get body massages from 25-80mins aimed at relaxing/healing/treating any concerns you may have. “Mad chill”.
Both of these coffee spots offer a break from the 24/7 madness of a city like New York, but each of them have far more to offer than just coffee in their own way. Whether you want a quick bite to eat, or even go so far as to want a mani/massage, these are two spots I would highly recommend.
