MAC was one of the first ever cosmetics brands that I bought into, so naturally it holds a special place in my heart. A high-street beauty brand that has something for everyone, and is forever evolving and staying on trend, they are pretty hard to beat when it comes to the latest and greatest in makeup. Here I share my top 5 favourite MAC items that have been around for a while, which I’m sure will remain in my makeup bag for years to come…
PREP + PRIME FIX + : One of my favourite mists and a great tool to make your skin look refreshed and awakened, MAC’s Prep + Prime Fix + gently soothes skin and leaves it looking luminous. Packed with vitamins and minerals, it gives your skin an immediate hydration boost and leaves your makeup looking immaculate blending everything together nicely. This is not a setting spray, so it wont make your makeup last and stay in place all day – however it does feel wonderful when spritzing the face with this fine mist and it does lock all product in place. Another great use for this mist is to spray an eyeshadow brush with shimmer eyeshadow on to make the product really pop, once you try this trick you wont look back!
MINERALIZE SKINFINISH NATURAL – GIVE ME SUN! : A slow-baked finely milled powder with pearlized pigments, I love the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in the shade ‘Give Me Sun!’ as it makes me look sun kissed & radiant and adds a nice warmth to my skin. This is a great warm bronzing shade for my medium-toned/olive complexion as its not too dark or too orange, and I would recommend it for medium to tan skin tones (if your on the lighter side this may not be for you). Its a really lightweight buildable product that blends super easily, and the lack of shimmer/sparkle really makes it really natural looking. Being incredibly pigmented and with exceptional lasting power this quickly became one of my faves, and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
PRO LONGWEAR PAINT POT – SOFT OCHRE : An intensely pigmented creamy eyeshadow that can be worn alone or with other products, MAC’s Pro Longwear Paint Pot in the shade ‘Soft Ochre’ is my go-to eyeshadow primer. I apply it with a flat brush for even coverage, and the yellow/beige tone that dries to a matte finish makes it a great eyeshadow primer for me. The skin-like formula blends really smoothly and doesn’t crease, and you can build up the product without it flaking or looking too heavy. An unsung MAC hero, the Pro Longwear Paint Pots have a lightweight feel and are true to colour, another bonus is they don’t fade over time. Even though this is not intended as an eyeshadow primer, the flexible coverage of this shade in particular evens out any discolouration on the eyelids and makes it a great base. And I promise once you place eyeshadows on top of this product, they don’t move a bit!
STUDIO QUIKTRIK STICK – A LATTE SHEEN/SEMISWEET : Whoever said contouring and highlighting was hard, has never got their hands on this little gem. MAC’s range of Studio Quiktrik Sticks offer countless options for highlighting, contouring/bronzing, and you can even use them to add some colour to your cheeks. These multi-use double-ended sticks have a very creamy consistency meaning you can build up the product and blend them, making them great to wear over foundation or even alone on bare skin. The ease of using this product means you can enhance or top up your makeup on-the-go, but be warned as they are so soft and creamy they can break. I have the Quiktrik Stick in the shade ‘A Latte Sheen/Semisweet’, the highlight side is a light copper with a gold & silver shimmer and the contour side is a muted golden bronze. Its a sheer formula that gives subtle yet buildable coverage and colour, and has a pretty dewy looking finish on the skin. This backstage beauty favourite has definitely rubbed off on me and I reach for it constantly, and it really is a one-size-fits-all product.
EXTENDED PLAY GIGABLACK LASH : The lightweight waterproof formula of this long-wearing mascara, coupled with its simple and straight petite length brush, defines my lashes and gives them a nice curl without looking clumpy. The carbon black formula (which easily comes off with a makeup wipe) creates defined and fuller lashes without smudging or fading throughout the day. No flaking? No problem. I find the slender wand on this mascara grips even the tiniest of lashes, and it really gets into the roots of my top and bottom lashes making them look fuller and thicker – what more could I ask for?
